Are you looking to stay relevant, valued, and passionate about your work AND life well into your 50s, 60s, and beyond?
What does that look like for you? 👀
The photo of me in this post was taken a year or so ago by my photographer friend, @philipjabenton, who told me it should be my ‘book photo.’ Little did I know that I would then be writing a book with the brilliant @david.yeabsley on how to futureproof yourself in the later decades of your career.
This is a topic that isn’t talked about enough. As we navigate the final chapters of our professional lives, we may find that the following are tested:
- sense of purpose and worth
- confidence
- motivation
- energy
Life events, shifting industries, and evolving workplace cultures can challenge our confidence and self-worth - making it even more important to actively shape our professional future.
By committing to lifelong learning, adaptability, and self-investment, we can sustain careers that remain both meaningful and fulfilling.
We are incredibly grateful to the more than 50 individuals so far (aged 50-70) who have already contributed to our research. Their experiences are shaping our understanding of both the challenges and opportunities at this stage of life.
Just one striking insight? Nearly 70% of respondents have faced significant life events - such as:
- divorce
- bereavement
- illness
- menopause
- redundancy, or
- job loss
that have affected their identity, confidence, health, energy, or financial stability.
Yet, what’s most fascinating is how they have adapted and rebuilt, but also recognised what was missing that could have helped at that time.
We’d love to hear your insights, too. If you’re willing to share your experiences, we’d truly appreciate your input in our short questionnaire, designed around the structure of the book.
